The easiest and most effective way to install your birdtable is to use a 50 mm metpost. These cost about £5 from B&Q or Homebase etc.

Hammer the metpost into the ground using a block of wood to prevent damage to the metpost.

The post can be fixed into the socket with screws or wedged in with half a wooden clothes peg.

The birdtable simply drops onto the post and is fixed with a screw.

Birdtables installed like this have survived 100 mph gales.
